Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day From Home

Earth Day events may be canceled, but we still can get into the spirit of the annual environmental observance – marking its 50th anniversary this year – by taking action and celebrating at home.

Consider the following suggestions for how you and your family can contribute to a healthier and cleaner planet:

– Take a family walk and observe nature.
– Plant some trees or native wildflower seeds.
– Put in a rain or butterfly garden.
– Ride a bike or take a hike.

And check out Five Days of Earth Day, a series of short videos from the DNR’s education team that highlight many aspects of what it means to enjoy, share and take care of the world around us. A new video drops every morning this week at 9 a.m. on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MiNatureDNR/.

The drawing is one of the winners of the 2020 Earth Day Poster Contest, created by first grader Juliana Gjokaj of Monfort Elementary in Shelby Township.

National Library Week 2020

The theme for National Library Week 2020 is, “Find your place at the library.” Even though Newaygo Library must be closed at this time due to executive “shelter in place” orders, you can still find your place here. Newaygo Library is open for business online by providing the virtual services and digital content you need more than ever. You can access ebooks, e-audio books and e-magazines, virtual storytimes and activities, MeL databases, and so much more — all from the comfort of your home. Visit our website at newaygolibrary.org to learn more.
Email info@newaygolibrary.org to ask questions.
Do you need a library card? Residents of Brooks Township, Garfield Township/Newaygo Schools, and the City of Newaygo may email the library at info@newaygolibrary.org to get a library card or renew their existing account.
Newaygo Library desires to open the way for more residents to have and enjoy the benefits of a library card. Toward that end, on April 11th, fines and fees accrued on accounts between 2003 and 2013 were purged from records. Email today! We want to get a library card for you!

Share Your Stories

The Newaygo Area District Library is asking Newaygo County residents to share their personal COVID-19 stories. These stories will be preserved in the library’s collection to keep a history of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic upon Newaygo County residents.

Update April 10

Library Update April 10

Your Library and COVID-19:
Today, Executive Order No. 2020-42 was signed by Governor Whitmer.

As a result, Newaygo Area District Library must remain temporarily closed through April 30.

We realize this continues to present a hardship for our patrons. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and adjust our services as needed.

Our tentative date for re-opening is May 4.
• Our first priority is the safety of our staff and patrons.
• We will implement some changes to keep in-person contact safe for our staff and patrons, by following CDC recommended guidelines or restrictions.
• In-person library programs for May will be canceled or rescheduled to a later date.
• Please visit our website newaygolibrary.org and FB, Twitter, or Instagram for Library updates.

In the meantime –
• Remember that downloadable e-books, audio books, and magazines are always available to you with your library card and pin number. See the links on our website: newaygolibrary.org
• Your holds-placed will remain secure for you.
• Delivery items from other libraries may be delayed.
• Email info@newaygolibrary.org with any questions. A staff person will respond.
• Please note that due dates will be adjusted to whatever our opening date will be. Keep return items safely at your home until we reopen. If you feel you must return items earlier to the library, use the drive-through return slots on the north side of our building.
• Stay tuned to our website newaygolibrary.org and FB, Twitter, or Instagram.

We look forward to seeing you when we re-open.

Thank you for your continued support of your Newaygo Area District Library during this closure.

Stay well and keep reading!
